Medic (Nic/Open with permission)

I blink slowly to see blinding white light. I look at my arm and see an IV in my hand. I'm in a hospital gown. I hear the heart monitor give off a steady beat. I don't remember a lot. My face feels like it's on fire. Really, my whole body feels like its burning. My shoulder aches with a passion and it feels ilke a chunk's been ripped from my chest. Suddenly I remember. Bomb strike, yelling, explosion, my platoon. I left last week for a mission in Australia. I recognize this place. This is Mercy Hospital. I'm back in Mystic Falls. They must've transported me. I look up at the chart on the wall. Colonel Nicolas Sparks. Heart failure. Severe burn victims. Contact Erin Smith. Contact has not been notified yet of injuries. The last part is what really scares me. Coma for a month. Damn. That's not good. I sigh and shake my head. My phone and uniform are on the table next to me.

I was almost 3 months pregnant with a slight baby bump as I was driving to the hospital. I was told to come right away. My heart was racing as they told me Nic was there, yet I did not know for what reason. My heart wasracing ggreatlyas I then parked my car in one of the ramps and made my way through the hospital to the front desk. The nurse looked up at me with confusion. "Hi. I am here for Nic Sparks." I stated to the elderly nurse. The nurse gave mr a sympathetic look before she then said, "Room 294." Those were the last words she had to say to me before I took off down the hallway. My eyes searched wildly for the room as I touched the small baby bump. I haven't seen Nic in such a long time. He wss my love, and he was in the military protecting people. "293...294." I whispered as I then knocked on the door before entering it.

I look up as none other than Erin comes into the room. I blink slowly. I'm in a lot of pain. I don't have the energy to smile. Hey. I look at her. She's showing a lot more. It's been a while. I've been gone for at least two months.

I see him laying there on the bed in the hospital. A frown played on my lips as I then walked over to his bed and pulled up a chair for me to sit besides his bed. "Nic, hoe are you?" I whispered as I then grabbed one of his hands and held it gently with both if my hands. My heart was still racing as fear and sadness ran through me. Sadness and fear that Nic was terribly injured.

I grimace. Been better. I run my thumb over the top of her knuckles. I've missed you. My voice is hoarse.

I hear how hoarce his voice is and frown. I lean up and kiss his forehead head. "I missed you so much Nic. We both missed you so much." I then indicated to the baby bump. "I read the records that hang on the wall of what happened. Heart faliure. Severe burns. Coma for a month. I was not one to cry that much anymore but once I read all of those, the tears formed in my eyes. "Thank god you are alive Nic." I looked down into his eyes ad I then kissed his hand as I kept looking into his eyes.

I swallow as a knock sounds on the door and a doctor walks in. Good afternoon. I'm Doctor Sibel; you must be his girlfriend. Good to see you're awake, Colonel. How're you feeling? He shakes mine and Erin's hand and leans against the wall. I roll my eyes. Like I've been blown up, shot and had my heart taken out of my chest. He laughs. Good analysis; that's exactly what happened to you. I nod. My dog tags still hang around my neck. Alright, so here's a rundown of what happened. You've been in a coma for a month. As of now, your memory seems to be in tact. You were medivacked to us from Australia a month ago. You were in a battle and there was a night raid. You sacrificed yourself for your platoon. You told your platoon to run while you disarmed the bomb. You disarmed it, but there was a secondary trigger, which went off simultaneously. You were knocked out and severely burnt as you can see. You dislocated your shoulder which is why it hurts so much. You also sustained two bullet wounds. One to the abdomen which didn't cause damage, but you also were shot in the heart, which caused heart failure. We fixed you up and you should be fine. We know you're a soldier but you should stay here for a while. I nod slowly.

I then rub my baby bump as I then look at Nic and smile a bit. "I will be here with him. Is it okay if I spend a few nights here with him?" I asked the doctor as I looked up at him and held Nic's hand gently in mine. My thumb ran over his knuckles as I kissed his knuckles once more.

The doctor looks wary but then smiles. Sure, there's a cot in the corner. Just be careful. We need to keep his blood pressure down. The doctor nods and shakes our hands again. He sets menus on the table and walks out, shutting the door behind him.l I'm sorry.

I look at him with a confused look, a raised eyebrow. "What are you sorry about love? You can't control about what had just happened." I kissed his forehead gently as I then touched his scruffy cheek. Oh how I missed the touch of his soft and warm skin bellow my finger tips. "You have nothing to be sorry about. I am just so happy that you are alive and here with me." I smiled a bit as I then pecked his lips very gently once more at that moment.

Another knocks sounds on the door and my commanding officer, General Daws walks in and salutes. I raise an arm and salute him back. Sir? He looks like he's baring bad news. Lovely. Colonel, your service has been greatly appreciated over the past five years, but your injuries unfortunately prevent you from active duty. Your heart will be too unsteady. It's not safe for you. We value your safety over your safety Nic. My heart drops as he hands me a letter. You are being honorably discharged from the army, with a Purple Heart and a Medal of Honor. He swallows and stands up straighter. He shakes my hand. Congratulations Colonel. No one deserves it more than you. Be safe. He salutes me before turning on his heel and walking out. I open the letter and read the same thing he just said. I set the letter aside. Well, I suppose that's taken care of. I press my morphine button and lie my head back down on the pillow.

I smiled sadly as I then got off of the bed I was on with him as I then sat back in the chair besides him. My eyes looked up at him as I then whispered, "Love, you deserve those awards. You are a true hero. A hero in my eyes and my everyone else's eyes." That was when I grabbed the menu from the cafe bellow and looked through it. "What would you like to eat love? I will go get you some food if you would like me to." I wanted to do anything for Nic to show how much I appreciated him.

I shake my head slowly. I'm fine; you go ahead. I swallow as the morphine eases through my system. It takes away the physical pain but the mental pain remains here. This is not fun.

I smile sadly some more at my boyfriend. "We are not hungry." I rubbed my baby belly as I then looked at him. "Would you like to feel you child?" I asked him as I kept rubbing the belly slowly and gently a bit more. My heart was racing a bit as I looked at him. "Nic, I am glad that I did not lose you."

I nod and place my hand on her stomach. I close my eyes and smile softly. I can feel it. I just know. The baby's there. I can feel the life growing in my soul mate. It's crazy.

I smile as I then place my hand on top of his hand. "Our child. Tomorrow we can find out the sex of the baby if you want to." I looked at the love of my life as I smiled a bit more. I knew him and Primo were getting along better which was good. I needed a full family for when this baby was going to be here.

I nod and press a kiss to her hand. Absolutely. I sit up. I hate being in this damned bed. I chuckle.

I chuckled a bit with him as I then fluffed his pillows for him. I was going to care for my boyfriend no matter what. "Then awe can talk about baby names and such." Pecking his lips, I ran a hand through his hair before I sat back down in the chair.

I think. If it's a girl, Katherine, Emma, Sarah, Keira, Kayla. Not Katherine just because of my sister. I've always liked the name. If it's a guy, James, Michael, Eric, Stephen. I like Eric because Ric and Ricky are good nicknames. You? I ask her.

I think about it foe a couple of seconds before I replied, "I like the names, for boys, James, Eric, Arthur, Steven, Robert, Zach, Michael, Castiel. And then for girls, Sarah, Mary, Samantha, Alexis, Harmony, Kiera, and Guinevere." My hand held onto his hand gently as I then chuckled a bit. "Primo had a few ideas of his own, but the decision is all up to us and no one else."

I smirk. We are not naming our child Birdie. I chuckle.

I roll my eyes and laugh a bit. "Maybe if we get a pet bird." I shake my head as I then kept laughing a bit. "He was just being helpful. I think that he felt terrible for being a dick to you. Did he apologize to you?" I bit my lip asI knew they were okay with one and other but I wondered if Primo finally apologized to Nic. I sscooted the chair closer to the bed as I rubbed my belly some more. I was pretty small for three months but that was okay the doctor told me. Then I thought about the medals Nic had won. "Is there going to be a ceremony for you and the medals you had just recieved?" I asked him.

I nod. Most likely so, and yes, Primo apologized. I shrug. Unfortunately they'll make me stand and give a speech; then they'll make other people give speeches. It's not a fun event.

I have been to one of the award ceremony to honor the members who served for our country. I went to one with Luke, but this time it would be better, I could tell. "I know. Not a lot of our countries heroes want to have a huge event in their honor. They can be fun if you have the right person with you." The smile on my lips grew as I then pecked his lips once more. "I am so glad that you made it Nic. I am so glad that you were not killed. I do not know what I would do if you didn't...." I didn't want to think about it as I then looked down a bit as my bangs covered my eyes.

I brush the hair from her face. Don't think like that. I promised I'd make it home to you, and I did. Okay? I love you; everything's okay now.
