Sensei (Jeremy/Michael)

I stop in my tracks as I hear a twig snap. I slowly turn around, dagger in one hand, stake gun in the other, to see a boy standing there. He looks to be about 17 or 18. I can feel that he's a hunter. I sigh and sheath my stake gun and dagger. I've never seen a hunter your age before. Tip for the kid, don't step on twigs in a forest. A lot of hunters shoot first and ask questions later.

I found myself taking more and more walks, the more I got out of the house, the more my problems seemed to disappear. Today I decided to stay out of town and headed into the woods, where hopefully I wouldn't run into anyone.

Just as I was thinking I was happy to be alone I found myself standing in front of someone I had never seen before, who just so happened to be holding several weapons. I froze instantly, staring at him in shock. I didn't notice I was holding my breath until I took a deep breath once he put his weapons aside. I didn't know whether to run or not, but what he said intrigued me. "What the hell does that mean?" I said, my eyes going back and forth from him and his gun.

I shake my head. It means that you're the youngest hunter I've ever come across. I notice him staring at my gun. I'm not going to shoot you. It's hunter code; don't shoot another hunter. He looks extremely confused. I'm not sure why; he should be capable of defending myself if he's a hunter like me.

Why did this guy keep saying I was a hunter. What did that even mean? The thought to run away was becoming stronger and stronger, but I stood still, still eyeing the man wearily. "What do you mean by hunter?" I asked while eyeing his gun again, it wasn't a normal gun, it shot wooden stakes. I turned my attention back to him, still not understanding why he thought I was a hunter.

I look at him. You don't like vampires very much, do you? You feel the need to kill them, to be rid of supernatural creatures all together. You're drawn to them; you're drawn to get rid of them, are you not? I can see it in him. He's a hunter, or he's going to be.

I stared at him, repeating his words through my mind as I thought about what they meant. I wanted to deny it instantly, I couldn't hate vampires, not when the last family member I have is one of them. Yet there was a part of me that wished I had never encountered them. I hesitated before saying anything, "There are some I could live without, but they're not all bad, but I don't see how that makes me a hunter."

I shake my head and take a dagger out of my belt. Without warning I toss it at him at human strength-speed. He catches it. Hunter's reflexes. I don't care if you play sports. Football players can't catch knives in front of their faces. You're a hunter, Jeremy.

I stood there, thinking over what he had said and what it all meant. Did he know something that I didn't? Was I going to become the next Alaric? Before I had time to finish my thoughts I saw a flash of silver come towards me and out of instinct I grabbed it before it came towards me. I didn't notice it was his dagger until I held it in my hand. I looked down at the dagger he had just thrown at me and back to this man, he was officially crazy. I shook my head and started stepping backwards, trying to get away from him. "I don't think I am who you think I am." I said while throwing his dagger back to him, so it landed by his feet.

I shake my head. No, you're exactly who I think you are. You're Jeremy Gilbert, the next Alaric. You're a hunter, Jeremy. he should be proud. Alaric was one of the best hunters in the world. Jeremy is his successor. It's a gift.

"No I'm not." I said, glaring at him. "And you didn't even know Alaric, because if you did you would know that it wasn't his choice." If only this guy knew what he had just said and how ridiculous it was. To think that this man thought he was actually a hunter, meaning he would actually want to kill vampires, which is pretty much everyone he knows, including his last family member.
